Have a question about the cookery school?

Check out the FAQs below or drop us an email if you can't find the answer you're looking for.

  • Who can attend the classes?
Anyone! The classes are open to anyone with a passion for cooking. You can book as an individual, a couple or in a small group, and you don't have to be part of the Redmaids' High School community. Our standard classes are open to adults and anyone from School Year 12 and above, and we will have special Junior and Cook Together classes for younger cooks. Any younger cooks must be able to work comfortably at a standard height kitchen worktop, approximately 90cm from the floor.
  • Do I have to be able to cook to a certain level?
All our classes are designed for home cooks and we presume no prior knowledge in a subject unless specifically highlighted. Our aim is to build your confidence and give you tips and tricks that you can use in your own kitchen, no matter what the subject matter of the class.
  • Can you cater for special dietary needs and allergies?
With advanced notice we'll always try to accommodate any specific requirements if we can, however sometimes this isn't possible due to the nature of the dish being cooked or the fact it might be being made within a pair (unless you bring someone with the same dietary requirement.) We unfortunately cannot guarantee an allergen free environment in our kitchens, however the teaching kitchen is designated nut-free. Please contact us directly to discuss any allergies or dietary requirements.
  • What should I wear/bring with me?
If you have an apron at home, we would love you to bring it with you or we can provide you with a disposable (biodegradable) apron on the day. All ingredients for your class are included. Please wear comfy clothes and flat, closed-toe footwear. No flip-flops or high heels, please! If you have long hair please ensure it is tied-back during the class. We are trying to use minimal single-use packaging so please bring takeaway containers for any food you would like to take home.
  • Can I cancel/postpone my class?
We request at least three weeks notice unless there is a waiting list for the class, as this sometimes gives us sufficient time to try to resell your place. You are welcome to send a friend/family member/work colleague in your place but please let us know in advance, and notify of us of any additional dietary requirements.
  • Are your classes online or in-person?
At the moment all classes are in-person, although we may offer online classes again in the future.
  • Do you ever cancel classes?
Occasionally we may have to cancel a class if there are not enough people enrolled to make it viable. In the event of a cancellation you will be notified at least a week in advance and receive a full refund or transfer to another course.
  • Will more classes be added to the programme in the future?
We are hoping the cookery school will be a big success and that there will be enough demand to add lots more exciting classes to the programme, including longer courses for children in the school holidays, and Friday evening classes for adults. Please feel free to get in touch if you have ideas of what you would like to see on our programme!
  • Do you host children's parties and corporate events
In the future we hope to be able to host lots of bespoke cookery events. Watch this space for more information!
